‘Atlanta’ Is Back! After a Four Year Hiatus, Acclaimed Series Return Date Set by FX
At last! Donald Glover’s award-winning series has a return date.
Atlanta, which has won five comedy Emmys, has been in a Covid limbo ever since the second season finale aired in 2018, and is now set to return March 24th, 2022. This is nearly three years after the originally-planned premiere date.
The series, which airs on FX, will premiere with a two-episode premiere and will stream the next day on Hulu. This will be the first season that will feature next-day streaming. Disney, which owns Hulu, will promote the new season on to of its outlets channels by airing a new teaser trailer during the NBA games airing on ESPN and ABC on Christmas Day.
We are thrilled to have Atlanta back with a new season on March 24,” FX Entertainment president Eric Schrier said in a statement. “Once again, Donald Glover, the producers and stellar cast have delivered another signature season synonymous with the excellence that makes Atlanta so great.”
Season three was ordered in June 2018, and originally was postponed to accommodate series creator and star Glover’s busy feature film schedule. Thanks to the pandemic, that never happened as production was shut down in March 2020.
Season three was filmed primarily in Europe, and had finished filming this past summer when production on Season four started in Atlanta. The cast and crew shot seasons three and four, which received an early renewal back in 2019, back-to-back.
The European shoot served the season three plot, which sees Earn (Glover), Paper Boi’ (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (LaKeith Stanfield) and Van (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour. The season shows the group dealing with outsider status and struggling to adjust to their newfound success.
