Blood and Frowning: ‘Black Mirror’ Creator Charlie Brooker Announces Next Project at Netflix

Charlie Brooker is so excited about his next project, he can hardly contain himself.
The creator and showrunner of Netflix’s dystopian anthology series Black Mirror announced Tuesday that he will be delving into the world of the gritty crime drama in his next series for the streamer.
The new series will consist of only four episodes, and though it has a description, it has yet to receive a title. According to the Netflix press release, the show is a “profoundly serious crime thriller” that is “set between the fictional northern city of Bleakford and the streets of London, following a tormented detective on a relentless mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims.”
Despite the grim description, Netflix’s press flak hints that it might be “wickedly funny”.
Brooker’s statement for the release tends to back up the promise of dark, serial killer humor – in it he promises plenty of “blood and frowning”.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release. I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”
Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) have been cast so far. Campbell has worked with Brooker before in the Black Mirror season 4 episode “Hang the DJ.”
Brooker again gets the show creator credit and will executive producer with Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones. Rather than use his former production house Broke & Bones, the new show will be produced by Netflix.
