Kevin Smith’s reboot of Masters of the Universe is coming to Netflix

For now, you’ll have to use your imagination when to picture Prince Adam transforming into He-Man as he utters the phrase “by the power of Grayskull!” in the new Masters of the Universe animated series. But you can hear what that will sound like.

Kevin Smith, who is bringing an anime reboot of the Masters of the Universe series to Netflix later this year, announced Monday that Bear McCreary, who has composed the scores for The Walking Dead and Outlander (among other shows,) will be the man behind the music of Masters.

You won’t see any video outside of Smith’s reaction to the music, but you can hear He-Man voice actor Chris Wood say “by the power of Grayskull…” as Prince Adam transforms into the muscle-bound hero, with McCreary’s music underneath.

McCreary has also worked on shows like Battlestar GalacticaTerminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and on movies like Freaky, Fantasy Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

The stellar voice cast for the project will include Wood as well as Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Conroy, Tony Todd, Henry Rollins, Alicia Silverstone, Justin Long and Jason Mewes.

In an interview, Smith describes the series as “a sequel series to the classic era that everybody knows, almost as if this was the next episode in the [original] Filmation series.”

Smith added that, “if you like the style of [Netflix’s] Castlevania, just put He-Man through that filter, and it has that feel and look to it. It’s anime style.”

No official premiere date has been announced, but Smith confirmed that the series will premiere at some point this year.
