Bye, Karate: Netflix Renews ‘Cobra Kai’ For Sixth, And Final Season That Promises To Be The “Biggest” Yet
Cobra Kai fans, you have one more chance to root for your favorite dojo before it’s all over.
In a statement posted to his Twitter page, producer Jon Hurwitz said “Never be afraid to fight for your dreams. They just might come true.” He also posted a long letter from himself and fellow producers Josh Heald and Hayden Schlossberg, thanking fans for sticking with the show over the past five seasons and hinting that there may be more karate drama at some point.
“The upcoming Season Six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai. While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies,” the letter reads.
Netflix also released a video.
Cobra Kai featured Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence as the two relived their karate tournament rivalry more than 30 years after the events of the Karate Kid movie. The show also brought their family and friends into the story as the two struggled to work together to make karate safe for kids in the Valley in Los Angeles, after the character played by Martin Kove, John Kreese, attempted to set up a kind of evil empire, but with kids learning martial arts.
Cobra Kai also featured Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, Dallas Dupree Young, Alicia Hannah-Kim, and Gianni DeCenzo. It brought back actors from the movie franchise including Yuji Okumoto, Thomas Ian Griffith, Elisabeth Shue, Sean Kanan, Robyn Lively and Tamlyn Tomita, among others.
The letter doesn’t say what fans can expect from Season 6, but it does promise a heartwarming conclusion to the popular series, which had an astonishing 107 million hours watched after its fifth season premiere. No official release date for the next season has been set yet, but that should change after production on the series finale wraps.
