Another PlayStation game is getting an adaptation.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star (and future Captain America) Anthony Mackie is set to produce and star in a Peacock series based on the Twisted Metal videogame franchise.

Deadline reports that the show will be a half-hour action comedy based on the classic PlayStation game series, from an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Mackie is playing the main character, John Doe, who according to the show “a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, John gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.

It’s not the first time someone has tried to adapt the intellectual property; back in 2012 just as Sony was launching a rebooted version of the game, director Brian Taylor was developing a movie with Nicolas Cage in the lead role. But the studio didn’t want to provide the necessary budget to make the Mad Max-style movie that Taylor envisioned, and the project was scrapped.

Twisted Metal is the latest in Sony PlayStation games that are providing the basis for new content on the big screen and in streaming. HBO Max is making a series based on The Last of Us franchise, and Tom Holland’s star vehicle Uncharted has been torching box office records since its release in February.

Twisted Metal is one of PlayStation’s most beloved franchises,” Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have such an amazing creative team and partners working together who have such passion for this iconic property. We can’t wait for fans to see what we have planned for them.”
