Everything ’90s Is New Again? Tiny Toons Enrolls in 2020
Exactly one week ago, we told you about the Animaniacs reboot, and now Tiny Toons, another cool ’90s cartoon series produced by Steven Spielberg and with an awesome theme song is being updated for 2020.
Tiny, toony, and more than a little loony, Buster, Babs and the Acme Acres gang are matriculating in Tiny Toons Looniversity, a new show set in the gang’s alma mater. Back in the 90s, they were young students learning at the oversized feet of legendary Toons like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
Amblin Entertainment is producing the reboot, which currently has a two season order on HBO Max, though no launch date has been announced.
“Tiny Toons Looniversity will capture all the clever, subversive and smart humor that made Tiny Toons such a standout series,” said Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics President Tom Ascheim.
Buster, Babs and Plucky Duck may be returning, but don’t expect to see Elmyra Duff in the news series. Cree Summer, who voiced the younger, feminine Elmer Fudd relation, tweeted that she learned that neither she or her character would be in the new series. No reason was announced for the omission, but it is possible that her character, which also appeared in the Pinky and the Brain series, may be subject to a rights battle now that those characters belong to Hulu.
