From Scranton to Toledo: The Dunder Mifflin Crew Takes a New Assignment and a New Industry: Journalism

From selling paper to publishing a newspaper: the minds behind The Office are taking their crew to a whole new town for a sequel series to the long-running comedy coming to Peacock this fall.
The Paper, another mockumentary-style sitcom from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, is set in the same universe as The Office, and features a new assignment for the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch. The crew is searching for a new subject when they discover a historic Toledo, Ohio newspaper, The Truth Teller, and the eager publisher trying to revive it.
Oscar Nunez will return as Oscar Martinez, but the rest of the cast will be new faces in this Scranton-adjacent comedy. “I told Mr. Greg Daniels that if Oscar came back, he would probably be living in a more bustling, cosmopolitan city,” Nuñez told the audience at the NBCUniversal Upfront presentation in New York City Monday. “Greg heard me and he moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio — which has three times the population of Scranton. So, it was nice to be heard.”
Toledo’s population as of 2023 was 265,304 down from the 2020 census count which put it at 270,871. The one major daily newspaper is the Toledo Blade, and the city has several alternative papers.
Domhall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., and Allan Havey form the ensemble cast, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts will guest star.
Greg Daniels, who created and served as showrunner for The Office returns, and will executive produce with co-creator Michael Koman (Nathan for You). Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas are also executive producing.
Universal Television is the studio, and the show will air exclusively on Peacock, with a projected premiere in September.
