What a way to celebrate “First Contact Day.”

Paramount announced on Tuesday that Star Trek: The Next Generation stars LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner will join the Patrick Stewart and the rest of the cast of Star Trek: Picard for its third and final season.

First Contact Day comes from the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact, starring the TNG cast members. In the movie, April 5th, 2063 is the day that humans first make contact with Vulcans, marking the beginning of interstellar exploration in Star Trek history. Since the film’s debut, First Contact Day is celebrated by fans worldwide annually on April 5th.

Though this is the first time the main Next Generation cast will appear on screen together since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis film, some of the actors from the original series have turned up on Picard. Spiner has played several characters in Seasons 1 and 2 (which is currently streaming on Paramount+), including his original role as the android Data; Frakes and Sirtis appeared in Season 1 as William T. Riker and Deanna Troi, and Whoopi Goldberg reprised her role as Guinan in the Season 2 premiere.

“I remember watching the premiere of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday,” Terry Matalas, Picard showrunner, said in a statement. “It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction. So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor.”
