Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are going to be killing it on Amazon Prime.

The two appeared (one way or another) in the 2018 Disney film Solo: A Star Wars Story; Glover played Lando Calrissian, and Waller-Bridge a droid named L3-37. They will team up again to headline a series based on the hit 2005 movie Mr & Mrs Smith, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Both actors are Emmy winners: Glover won for his dramatic turn in FX’s Atlanta, while Waller-Bridge took home a trophy for her work in the Amazon comedy Fleabag. In addition to playing the titular assassins, Variety reports that Glover and Waller-Bridge will also serve as executive producers on the series.

The series was co-created with Francesca Sloane, who will serve as showrunner, and has her own overall deal at Amazon Studios. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer and Wells Street Films’ Jenny Robins will executive produce.

Milchan and Schaefer said in a statement, “having had the pleasure of successful collaborations with the incredibly talented Donald Glover, most recently on [the Amazon original movie] Guava Island, we all started talking about other projects to do together and when he suggested the idea of a new take [on] Mr & Mrs Smith, we jumped at the chance to get going right away.”

The statement continued, “adding Phoebe and her company Wells Street Films as a collaborator and co-star takes everything up another level and makes the project worthy of a reimagining for both new audiences and past fans of the original film.”

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said in her statement, “talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team.”

The film from director Doug Liman was a massive hit, grossing almost $500 million worldwide and was the start of the lengthy relationship between Pitt and Jolie.

The series is due to debut in 2022.
