‘Hawkeye’ on Disney+ Is Putting a Bow on Your Holiday Viewing Schedule
The new Christmassy trailer for Hawkeye on Disney+ doesn’t show us Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova (at least, not her full face), but it should still leave you feeling pretty merry.
The series is based on the Marvel comic and featuring Jeremy Renner as the Avenger skilled at archery, In the trailer, Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye) just wants to spend Christmas with his family, but his enemies have other plans. He meets Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), who calls herself ‘The World’s Greatest Archer’ (and might even be that.)
As with most of the Avengers, Hawkeye is retiring, so Clint begins training Kate to take over for him, as the character does in the comics. But before that passing of the torch in the trailer the two have to work together to battle some goons.
Vera Farmiga also appears briefly. She plays Kate’s mom, Eleanor. Eleanor Bishop is pretty evil in the comics: a wealthy, amoral jerk. (She might also be a vampire.)
The story looks to be a hybrid from two different comic series: part of it from the Matt Fraction/David Aja classic Hawkeye run, with the other half pulled from Kelly Thompson’s series about Kate Bishop.
Of course there are elements from the MCU included in the show as well: apparently there exists a Broadway musical about Steve Rogers (aka Captain America), and we see a hint of the “masked vigilante” Hawkeye battled in Avengers: Endgame. Missing from the trailer is Florence Pugh, who made her MCU debut as assassin Yelena Belova in Black Widow, where at the end she is recruited by the Contessa, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The Contessa shows Yelena a picture of who is responsible for her sister’s death, and it’s Hawkeye.
Hawkeye and all of its holiday charm debuts on November 24th on Disney+.
