If It’s Tuesday, There Must Be News About ‘Wednesday’ – A Big Casting Announcement Means Changes at Nevermore
It looks like Steve Buscemi is bringing his brand of creepy, kooky and altogether ooky to Nevermore Academy for the second season of Wednesday.
According to Variety and their sources say Buscemi will play the new principal of Nevermore Academy. However, exact character details are being kept quiet for now, and representatives for Netflix and Buscemi declined to comment on the news.
Shooting on season 2 will begin this month in Ireland, a change from the first season which was shot in Romania, making the location a tourist hot spot. That and other logistical challenges prompted the move.
Also new this year: star Jenna Ortega will get a producer credit, giving her more input on the creative side. During a Variety Actors on Actors conversation from 2023, Ortega said she had “as many conversations as possible” with the writers and producer Tim Burton
“I’m just so curious: I want to see the outfits, new characters that are coming in, scripts, and they were gracious enough to let me put the producer hat on,” she said.
Ortega said that the upcoming season will be focus on horror over romance, and that the love triangle that was the focus of much of season one has been dropped.
“It’s still going together, but we’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more. Because it is so light-hearted, and a show…with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously,” she said, promising, “we’re going to get bolder, more dark.”
Season 2 will reportedly also focus more on Wednesday’s relationship with her mother, and could add more of the Addams Family members.
