If It’s Wednesday, It Must Be Christina Ricci: New Netflix Series Will Feature Actress In A New Role
It just wouldn’t be Wednesday without her.
Christina Ricci, who played the iconic character of Wednesday Addams in two Addams Family movies, will return to the franchise in Netflix’s upcoming series, Wednesday – but this time as an entirely new character.
Jenna Ortega (Scream, X) will play the title character for the show, which is about a younger version of the darkly funny, pigtailed character. Ricci last played the role in Addams Family Values, released in 1993.
Fans of the franchise were so invested in Ricci’s Addams Family history that they launched a petition when the Netflix series was announced, calling for her to be cast in the show.
The coming-of-age comedy, written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, follows Wednesday during her years at Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships
Details about Ricci’s character are under wraps, but the actress has been on set in Romania for the past few weeks. Filming on the Tim Burton-led project is scheduled to wrap this month.
In addition to Ortega, Ricci will star alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones as matriarch Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams. Eight episodes are being produced for season one.
Ricci has been busy lately; she is returning for Season two of Showtime’s breakout hit Yellowjackets, in which she stars. Her recent credits also include Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything, which she produced, and The Matrix: Resurrections.
