Jon Stewart Returns to New ‘Fake News’ Gig on Apple TV+
Over five years since he left the anchor chair as the self-described “most trusted name in fake news” at The Daily Show on Comedy Central, Jon Stewart is developing another current event series.
Apple TV+ and Stewart are teaming up to create a hour-long series, which is yet untitled, and has no official launch date. The series, already picked up for multiple seasons, will feature in-depth reporting on news topics relevant to today, and that “are currently part of the national conversation and his advocacy work” according to the show’s official description.
Although the show will deal with real news stories like Stewart’s former show, the series won’t be a daily, and possibly not even a weekly show. Apple says the shows will likely air as its subject matter demands. A companion podcast will also be available on Apple Podcasts.
Although Stewart hasn’t had his own show for the past five tumultuous years, he has been very visible. He guested on shows by his former Daily Show co-stars like Trevor Noah and Samantha Bee and also executive produces The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Stewart has also testified before Congress several times, advocating for 9/11 First Responders.
Stewart’s deal also extends to other projects for Apple TV+, possibly even movies. Stewart directed Irresistable (2020) starring Steve Carrell, another Daily Show co-hort, and Rosewater (2014), the story of a journalist detained in Iran.
