Kidnapping, Cults, Death: ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 2 Trailer Teases Shocking Twists and New Cast Members
Imagine just stumbling in to the world of Yellowjackets.
Elijah Wood joins the Emmy-nominated show as Walter, a friend to the adult version of Misty, played by Christina Ricci, joining her “Citizen Detective” bureau on the twisty mystery-horror show.
“Kidnapping, cults, death … your friendships are a little more complicated than most,” says Walter, in perhaps the understatement of the year.
The trailer shows brief glimpses of spooky tribal imagery, hinting at the dark secrets of what happened to the Yellowjackets during their dark struggle to survive, which has yet to be fully revealed but which haunts the adult versions of the teenage characters. The trailer also shows Natalie (Juliette Lewis), being hypnotized into remembering what happened when she was stranded.
“Darkness. We brought it back with us,” intones Natalie.
Yellowjackets season two will kick off March 24th on streaming and on demand for all Showtime subscribers, before making its on-air debut on March 26th. This season may or may not answer some of the cliffhangers from season one, but will expand and deepen the central mystery of what happened to the girls when they were stranded in the wilds of Ontario after the plane taking them to a soccer tournament crashed.
Season one, which received seven Emmy nominations, averaged over 5 million weekly viewers across platforms and was the second-most streamed series in Showtime history.
Season two cast additions also include Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s Simone Kessell as adult Lottie, Servant star Lauren Ambrose as adult Van, as well as Jason Ritter in an undisclosed role, Supergirl‘s Nicole Maines as Lisa, an associate of adult Lottie; Truth Be Told‘s Nia Sondaya as teen Akilah (recasting Keeya King, who exits the series); and The Borgias actor François Arnaud as Paul, secret boyfriend of Coach Scott (Steven Kreuger).
Also returning are original cast members Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress and Lewis, as well as Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole and Kevin Alves. The show was created Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. Produced by studio Entertainment One (eOne), the series is currently in production in Vancouver.
