Get ready for the return of Eagly!

And so is Peacemaker, for a second season of his eponymous show, returning to Max in August. Though a second season of the sarcastic, subversive, often surreal show that premiered back in 2022 has been in the works for a while, it only got a premiere date this Friday.

John Cena first played Peacemaker in 2021’s The Suicide Squad and reprised the character in the hotly-anticipated series. Both come from James Gunn, now co-head of Warner Bros. Cena plays Peacemaker, whose government name is Christopher Smith, and in season 2 he will “reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost,” per the official studio description.

In addition to the return of Peacemaker’s American Eagle buddy Eagly, the second season also brings back Vigilante (Freddie Stroma). Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee and Robert Patrick also return for season two.

The new cast members include Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows. James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 and directs three episodes, including the premiere. Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones also take on directing duties.

In the trailer released Friday, Peacemaker is joined by a few more DC Comics heroes: Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord (previously played by Pedro Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984, as well as Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. By the time Peacemaker S2 premieres, all three will have appeared in James Gunn’s Superman, due out July 11th.
