On your marks, get set, try not to die!

The most dangerous reality competition show is back – and no, we aren’t talking about Survivor or The Golden Bachelorette.

As part of its Geek Week celebration, Netflix released a teaser trailer for the second season of its global smash hit series Squid Game, a show about a cut-throat and dystopian game show and the participants who participate in a competition show that’s more about staying alive than it is winning.

About the second season, Netflix says “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the states and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.”

Gi-hun is also after revenge, according to director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who in a letter to fans this summer said “Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1, returns and joins the games again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”

The trailer opens with Gi-hun waking up in a panic before holding up a gun in a dimly lit hallway as he faces a masked man. Later, we hear the voice of that same masked man say “We’re ready to start the game,” the trailer’s only spoken line.

Returning for season 2 are Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo and new cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.

To say the first season of Squid Game was big is a gross understatement. It quickly became Netflix’s most-watched series and program not jus in the US or S. Korea but in 94 countries. It went on to win multiple Emmys and Screen Actors Guild Awards for its cast – Lee Jung-jae became the first actor to win a Best Actor Emmy for a non-English-speaking role. After the first season aired, Netflix capitalized on the show’s popularity by turning it into a real-life reality series patterned after the show (without all the needless death, though the participants faced some unexpected problems) called Squid Game: The Challenge.

Anyone excited for the second season of Squid Game should be prepared to log in to Netflix on December 26th. Game on!
