Fans of Mike Flanagan’s eerie and emotional mini-series have one more chance to watch a new project by the beloved director on Netflix, after which he’ll provide the streamer with new material…nevermore.

Not that he’s done directing – he and his partner Trevor Macy have inked a new deal with Prime Video. Still, a new Flanagan series on Netflix is something of an event, at least to fans of terrifying and heart-rending gothic horror series, usually based on classic literature.

The last of these is The Fall of the House of Usher, inspired of course by the works of Edgar Allan Poe, who wrote many macabre and maudlin tales early in the 19th century. Per the series’ official description, this story is about “ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher.” who “have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.”

Flanagan tends to work with many of the same actors from project to project, and this one is no exception. House of Usher stars Flanagan’s mainstays Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Alex Essoe, Carla Gugino, Rahul Kohli, Ruth Codd, Igby Rigney, Samantha Sloyan, Zach Gilford and Annabeth Gish.

The series also adds Mark Hamill, Mary McDonnell, Bruce Greenwood and Carl Lumbly, among others, to the substantial cast list. Flanagan directs four episodes, with Michael Fimognari directing the rest.
