Reckoning with Serial Killers: New Trailers for Hulu and Paramount Series Tease Different Kinds of Terror
Serial killer dads and bad mother aliens will terrorize viewers in two new shows.
In the eight-episode series Happy Face, Dennis Quaid plays real-life serial killer Keith Jesperson, also known as the Happy Face Killer. The show, coming to Paramount+ in March, isn’t about him though – at least not directly.
Annaleigh Ashford (Welcome to Chippendales) plays Melissa Reed, Jesperson’s daughter. After decades of no contact, Keith forces his way back into his daughter’s life, and, with another prisoner’s execution looming, Melissa must find out if an innocent man is going to be put to death for a crime her father committed. In the process, she must face a reckoning of her own identity.
James Wolk, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne, Dorian Harewood and Benjamin Mackey also star in Happy Face, which was written by Jennifer Cacicio, who also serves as showrunner.
The show is inspired by the true-life story of Melissa Moore and is derived from her involvement in the Happy Face podcast from iHeartPodcasts; and the autobiography Shattered Silence, written by Moore with M. Bridget Cook. The first two episodes of Happy Face premiere on March 20th.

Hulu’s new series offers a different kind of mass killer: aliens. Yes, those same Aliens that tormented Ripley on board the Nostromo (and elsewhere) are now headed to Earth, where everyone can hear you scream.
In the teaser for FX/Hulu’s Alien: Earth, you can see a xenomorph flopping around the inside of a spaceship as it is in distress. By the end of the teaser, we see the ship’s destination: it’s crash landing on Earth.
The show’s official description reads: “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat,” the aforementioned xenomorphs.
The cast of unlucky earthlings include includes Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El.
The show comes from Noah Hawley and is set two years before the events of 1979’s Alien, which launched the franchise. The show is set to premiere this summer.
