Restart Your Enthusiasm: Larry David Returns With ‘Life, Larry and The Pursuit of Unhappiness
Larry’s back!
Larry David, who played an exaggerated version of himself for 12 seasons over years in HBO Max’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, returns to the streamer with a new show titled Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America.
HBO Max dropped a teaser trailer for the series, giving us a first look at the show. In it we see the David’s character witnessing the infamous V-J Day kiss, where a sailor kisses a nurse on the streets of New York City as everyone around them celebrates an end to World War II. Deciding to try to get some “war is over” action himself, David assaults a nurse, who alerts her beefy boyfriend (Joe Manganiello) and the scene quickly gets out of hand, with the entire assembled crowd closing in on David, accusing him of being a “pervo Nazi.” (President Obama is not in that scene.)

Unlike Curb, Life, Larry etc. is a sketch series with topics covering American history and famous figures and will debut the first of its seven episodes this June. Unlike Curb, David’s new show has a slightly different production hierarchy: the show is coming from Higher Ground Productions, which is run by former US President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama.
The former leader of the free world will appear in one episode, and he’ll be joined by several Curb regulars (Susie Essman and Vince Vaughan among them), as well as actors like Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Hamm, Jerry Seinfeld, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Sean Hayes.
David is also producing along with Jeff Schaffer, and the two serve as the show’s writers.
Life, Larry and The Pursuit of Unhappiness is set to premiere on HBO Max on Friday, June 26th. After that, the seven-episode series will continue airing weekly through August 7th.
