Save The Date: ‘The People We Hate At The Wedding’ Crashes Into Streaming This November
What wedding feature is worse than a bad DJ, a drunken best man speech AND a cash bar? Obnoxious guests, of course.
The People We Hate At The Wedding, starring Kristen Bell (The Good Place), Allison Janney (Lou) and Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen) as those terrible guests, will premiere on Amazon Prime November 18th. In the film, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Grant Grinder, dysfunctional American siblings Alice (Bell) and Paul (Platt), along with their over-optimistic mom (Janney), get invited to the London wedding of their estranged half-sister Eloise (The Rings of Power‘s Cynthia Addai-Robinson) as a chance for them to reconnect as (one would imagin) adults, and learn to love each other like they once did.
Reconnecting with each other is fraught with potential and actual disaster, though, as Alice and Paul are ready to “half-ass the relationship” with Eloise, whom they consider to be rich and uppity, after she decided to stay in London. Tensions continue to rise while on the trip, leading to a pre-wedding event resulting in a fight that sends Alice, Paul, and their mom to gaol.
The cast also includes Dustin Milligan (Schitt’s Creek), Isaach De Bankolé (Godfather of Harlem), Karan Soni (Four Samosas), Tony Goldwyn (King Richard), Jorma Taccone (Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers), Julian Ovenden (Avenue 5) and John Macmillan (House of the Dragon).
Emmy-winner Claire Scanlon directed the movie. Scanlon is a TV veteran, having helmed episodes of Saved by the Bell, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Miracle Workers, Never Have I Ever, Rutherford Falls, Mapleworth Murders, GLOW, Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and others, as well as a Kimmy Schmidt movie and Set It Up for Netflix.
Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin & Wendy Molyneux (The Great North, Bob’s Burgers) penned the screenplay of the adaptation, with Ashley Fox and Margot Hand serving as producers.
