ScarJo Moves To TV: Prime Video Casts Johansson In New Limited Series Adaptation Of ‘Just Cause’
The former Black Widow is headlining an adaptation of one of the first roles of her long career.
Scarlett Johansson will lead the cast of a new adaption of John Katzenbach’s 1992 novel Just Cause for Prime Video. This marks the first time Johansson will take the lead role in a TV series, and allows her to revisit one of the first roles of her career.
The novel was previously adapted for a 1995 feature film starring Sean Connery. Johansson, in one of her first movie roles, played the daughter of Connery’s character.
The novel and movie based on it centers on Miami reporter Matt Cowart. Johansson will reportedly be playing a female version of the character named Madison “Madi” Cowart. In the book, Cowart receives a letter from a death row inmate who claims to be innocent. As the investigation unfolds, not only does the case against the inmate prove to be shaky, but there are other nefarious things going on.
Christy Hall will write and executive produce the project, with Johansson executive producing under her These Pictures banner for Warner Bros. Studios.
Johansson is currently filming Project Artemis for director Greg Berlanti and Apple TV+. The two-time Oscar nominee (for Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit) also has Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and Kristin Scott Thomas’ My Mother’s Wedding coming soon. She ended her run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with in 2021 with Black Widow.
