Bob’s Burgers fans, you haven’t been forgotten.

The long-awaited film based on Bob’s Burgers was announced in way back in 2017, with a release date planned for sometime in 2020. More recently, the release date moved to April 2021 before the film was axed from the Disney movie release slate with no date in sight, but a new interview with the show’s creator should reassure fans.

The animated show launched as part of Fox’s Sunday night animation lineup in 2011 and picked up a dedicated following. The 20th TV show is centered around hamburger impresario Bob Belcher (H. Jon Benjamin), his wife Linda (John Roberts), and their children, Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman), and Louise (Kristen Schaal). Their crazy antics are set around the restaurant that they run together as a family. Previously, creator Loren Bouchard was known for his work on the animated show Home Movies, which was an Adult Swim staple from 1999-2004.

Collider interviewed Bouchard about his new AppleTV+ series Central Park. Bouchard said that Bob’s Burgers: The Movie is still being worked on to ensure that it meets the high expectations of audiences. He also emphasized wanting to make sure that moviegoers feel at ease heading back to theaters post-pandemic.

“It’s coming. Working hard on it. Excited to bring it out into the world. Excited also to bring it out at the right time. We’re not in a hurry to be in theaters until it’s really come back, people are going to the movies and feel safe and comfortable there. And we have to finish it. It’s not next month. We don’t have a date yet, we’ll announce very soon. But we are hard at work on it.”

Yes, theaters are reopening, even to some success, but social distancing is still a thing so capacity is still not 100%. If Bouchard and his team are still tweaking the movie, it makes sense to delay the premiere for a little bit longer.

Bouchard continued, “We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”
