Millie Bobby Brown is extending her relationship with Netflix a little longer.

Brown’s debut novel Nineteen Steps, inspired by her grandmother’s WWII experiences, will be her next project with the streaming service that made her a household name. Netflix is the home of the hit show Stranger Things, where Brown has been nominated for two Emmys for her role as Eleven, a girl with psychokinetic abilities.

According to Deadline, Brown will produce the film, and plans to star, and four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything) will write the screenplay. Netflix did not comment on this news.

Nineteen Steps follows Nellie Morris, an 18-year-old girl living in East London’s Bethnal Green neighborhood. Nellie must navigate the challenges of life during wartime — bombings, rationing, and the emotional toll of being away from loved ones — all while she kindles a romance with an American airman named Ray.

The title comes from the WWII disaster at Bethnal Green Tube station. 173 people were killed as they sought shelter during an air raid. The Bethnal Green underground station had nineteen steps leading to the train.

Brown, who co-authored the book with Kathleen McGurl, said the story was inspired by her Nanny Ruth, who told Brown stories from her time living through the war. Nineteen Steps was published by William Morrow in 2023 and became a New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller.

In addition to Stranger Things, Brown has had starring roles on other Netflix projects, including 2024’s Damsel and the two Enola Holmes movies released in 2020 and 2022. She will also star in the Russo Brothers’ The Electric Slate, to be released by Netflix in 2025.
