‘The Boys’ are Back: ‘Supernatural’ Stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins Join Jensen Ackles for 5th Season

The fifth and final season of The Boys is about to get a lot more Supernatural.
Jensen Ackles and the official Instagram account of The Boys shared a video on Wednesday of Ackles “calling” his former co-star Jared Padalecki to tell him, “we’ve got work to do.” Padalecki in turn relays the message to Misha Collins, who says he’s in, and then asking “what are we doing?” A full screen logo for The Boys closes out the short video.
Though it has been rumored for a while that the two would join the cast of The Boys, Wednesday’s announcement makes it official.
Ackles, Padalecki and Collins spent over a dozen years together on Supernatural, which was also created by Eric Kripke. Ackles and Padalecki played brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, who hunted demons and other beasties, and were on the show for its entire 15-season run. Collins joined the show at the end of the third season as the helpful (at times) angel Castiel.
Based on The New York Times’ best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys, which launched on Amazon Prime in 2019, subverts the superhero genre by showing the alleged good guys as true villains.
Ackles joined the cast of The Boys in its third season in 2020 playing Soldier Boy. Padalecki and Collins are joining as guest stars in roles that have yet to be disclosed.
Though The Boys is set to conclude after its final season, which launches in 2026, Ackles has already been cast in the prequel spinoff show Vought Rising, playing the same character.
