‘The Boys’ Casts The Girls for Superhero College Spinoff Show
‘The Boys’ spinoff found its girls and now looks good to go on Amazon.
Two casting choices for the spinoff show, to be set at a college for budding superheroes, were announced Thursday. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Jax Sinclair and Bones‘ Lizze Broadway are part of the ensemble cast for the untitled series, first announced as being in development in September. Set at the only college exclusively for young adult superheroes, run by the corrupt Vought International, the show’s logline calls it an irreverent, R-rated show that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive ‘Supes’ as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing to get superhero contracts for the best cities.
Broadway will play the role of young superhero Emma. Her past TV credits include The Rookie, Southland, Splitting Up Together and Here and Now. Sinclair will play Marie, another of the collegiate Supes. She most recently starred as Sabrina’s friend Rosalind in Chilling Adventures at Netflix. Her credits prior to that include Rizzoli & Isles, Easy, and The Vampire Diaries.
The spinoff will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios. Craig Rosenberg will serve as the showrunner and executive producer. He is currently a writer and executive producer on The Boys. Creator Eric Kripke will also executive produce through his Kripke Enterprises along with executive producers Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures.
Based on the bestselling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys is a darkly funny take on what happens when superheroes abuse their powers rather than use them for good. ‘The Boys’ try to expose the truth about ‘The Seven’ and Vought – the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets. Amazon renewed the show for third season in July. Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will join the cast as the original superhero Soldier Boy.
