Yes, ABC is still making new episodes of The Goldbergs – and they don’t look like they will stop any time soon.

The long-running sitcom joins an elite group of live-action broadcast comedies that have survived long enough to have a double digit run. The show recently logged its 200th episode.

The Goldberg renewal wasn’t totally unexpected; star Wendi McClendon-Covey (Beverly) signed a new deal to continue on the series back in March, and cast members Sean Giambrone (Adam), Troy Gentile (Barry) and Hayley Orrantia (Erica) also inked deals to return. Sam Lerner (Erica’s husband Geoff) has been upped to a series regular.

Jeff Garlin, who played the patriarch Murray, will not be returning. Garlin exited the show in December 2021 following a human resources investigation stemming from several complaints about the comedian’s on-set behavior. Garlin and Sony Pictures Television reached a mutual agreement that called for the actor’s departure.

For the balance of the season, the show used pre-recorded dialogue and a body double to stand in for Murray, with Garlin’s face superimposed in post-production. His departure is expected to be addressed when season 10 begins, when the character will be written out.

Earlier in season 9, the cast said goodbye to another character when George Segal, who played Albert ‘Pops’ Solomon, passed away from bypass surgery complications at age 87. His character was revealed to have passed away in his sleep.

The ’80s-set Goldbergs first premiered in 2013. Loosely based on the life of creator Adam F. Goldberg. It’s been a reliable draw for the network, ratings-wise, and has anchored the network’s Wednesday night lineup as the highest-rated show of the evening.
