The Return of Agent Carter: Marvel Releases Trailer for ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’
Agent Carter is back!
No, not Peggy Carter. That Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. got her happy ending with Steve Rogers.
In the trailer for Falcon and the Winter Soldier released on Sunday, actress Emily VanCamp was seen reprising her role as Agent Sharon Carter, last seen in 2016’s Captain America. (VanCamp’s character is Peggy’s niece in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.) Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes, aka War Machine, is also set to appear.
The show is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 19th and will feature Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson (the Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (the Winter Soldier) teaming up for bombastic buddy-cop adventures for six hour-long weekly episodes.
The story is set after Avengers: Endgame, and the tagline for the show says the two will be teaming up for “a global adventure that tests their abilities — and their patience.”
The trailer also revealed other new cast members, including MCU vet Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo, Wyatt Russell (Lodge 49) as John Walker, Noah Mills (The Enemy Within, The Brave) and Carl Lumbly (Supergirl, Alias). John Walker adopts the alter egos of U.S. Agent (or Super-Patriot) in the comic books.
There’s a theory Carl Lumbly might be playing Isaiah Bradley, a Black man who was experimented on with the same super soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) into Captain America.
The series is said to be about Falcon initially refusing to take up the mantle of Captain America, but ultimately changing his mind after discovering the secret history of the super soldier program by encountering Bradley, who was actually the “original” Captain America.
The program is part of Marvel’s year-long television campaign for Disney+. The streaming service is currently airing episodes of WandaVision, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will follow afterwards. That will be followed by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in May.
Other shows due out in 2021 include Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye and the animated What If? All of the series will weave in and out of the movies, with characters such as Ms. Marvel set to appear on the big screen as well.
The show is directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer. John Wick creator Derek Kolstad has also joined the series’ writing/creative team.
