To most, high school only felt like an eternity. To Maddie Nears, her high school experience will literally never end.

Peyton List (Cobra Kai) plays Maddie in School Spirits, coming March 9th to Paramount Plus. In the show, Maddie realizes she is a) dead, a victim of murder; b) unable to leave the site of her demise, Split River High School, and c) a new member of the Afterlife Support Group, a group of undead spirits who are also stuck in the school. It’s a lot to take in.

Maddie doesn’t know who killed her or why, so she and few of her new ghost friends try to figure out whodunnit. Everyone who knew Maddie is now a suspect, so she must stay close to them — at least when they are on school property.

School Spirits also features Kristian Flores (Reboot) as Simon and Kiara Pichardo (The Society) as Nicole, Maddie’s close friends and Spencer Macpherson (Reign) as Maddie’s now-suspicious, now-former boyfriend, Xavier. The undead support group is made up of Josh Zuckerman (The Offer), who plays the leader Mr. Martin, as well as fellow life-challenged students Charley (Nick Pugliese), Rhonda (Sarah Yarkin), and Wally (Milo Manheim).

School Spirits is based on a yet-unreleased graphic novel by Nate and Megan Trinrud (who penned the show’s pilot episode) and Maria Nguyen. It’s being executive produced by Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars, Bridgerton), who is the showrunner as well. Max Winkler (Ceremony, The Flower) directed the first two episodes.

The first of School Spirits‘ eight episodes drops March 9th. List will appear later this year in Cobra Kai’s sixth and final season.
