Work of the Devil: Charlie Cox Says By the Time You See ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Premiere, Season 2 Will Be in Production
Idle hands are the devil’s plaything, goes the saying, but the vigilante known as Daredevil will be anything but idle in the coming year.
Daredevil star Charlie Cox told the assembled at this year’s Fan Expo San Francisco that the team will be shooting episodes for a second season of Daredevil: Born Again by the time the first season premieres on March 4th on Disney+.
“It’s been so many years since we released any Daredevil content. I’m really excited about it,” Cox said. “By the time we release [Born Again] on March 4, we’ll already be shooting season 2. So it’s just a gift that keeps on giving, really.” Cox’s comment comes just days after Disney and Marvel unveiled the trailer for season one, posted above.
This is encouraging to fans of the character, seen only sporadically in Marvel offerings since the Daredevil series on Netflix, which was cancelled back in 2018. Daredevil and his alter ego Matt Murdock (Cox) appeared in MCU projects Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
The Daredevil revival show was announced in 2022, but filming had to be paused in 2023 as the Writers and Screen Actors Guild both went on strike that year. In September of 2023, Marvel decided to rework what had already been produced, replacing the writing and directing teams in an attempt to strengthen the ties to the Netflix series.
The new series’ logline reads “Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course. “
Daredevil: Born Again also stars D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, who all continue their roles from the Netflix show. Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher appears in the trailer.
Also in the cast are Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, and Ayelet Zurer. Dario Scardapane is the showrunner.
