Look, Up on the Web! It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! No, It’s Finally the Release of the New ‘Superman’ Trailer!
Superman is on trial – in the court of public opinion – in the first full trailer for James Gunn’s superhero saga, released on Wednesday.
The trailer for Superman, due out in July, opens with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) interviewing Clark Kent (David Corenswet) – as Superman, not as himself. Lane doesn’t skip hard-hitting questions while interviewing her boyfriend; she demands an explanation for some unpopular actions he took in the name of truth, justice and the American Way, namely meddling in a foreign war.
From there, we get brief images of the Man of Steel in action, his family, friends and foes, especially Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). We also get a longer look at Krypto the Superdog, his somehow controversial canine pal.

In addition to Luthor, the villain list includes María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, the Hammer of Boravia, a new character invented for this movie, and the mysterious Ultraman (the DC character, not the Japanese monster show Ultraman.) And speaking of Japanese monsters, we also see Superman flying directly into the mouth of a giant kaiju that’s rampaging through Metropolis.
On the friends side of the balance sheet are photog Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Guy Gardner as the Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi.)
This is Warner Bros. and DC’s most high-profile superhero film, and the first movie to feature solo Superman since Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel, which came out in 2013. Superman will serve as the tentpole for a whole new series of superhero films from Gunn’s reinvigorated DC Universe.

Superman flies into theaters on July 11th.
