Ourobouros: Jack Black and Paul Rudd Get Meta in Making of the Making of an ‘Anaconda’ Remake
Like a snake eating its own tail, Paul Rudd and Jack Black’s new film is a movie about making a movie about remaking the steamy 1997 cult classic Anaconda.
Also titled Anaconda, the movie, due out in December, follows Doug (Black) and Griff (Rudd), two wannabe filmmakers who decide to realize their childhood dream and make a reboot of the snake-hunting horror film that starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson.
Of course, they’re doing it with a significantly lower budget than the original, but even so, they manage to procure a big scary snake for filming. Unfortunately, the snake is a bit of a diva and makes a dramatic exit from set in its first scene.

“This is Anaconda, and we no longer have a snake for our snake movie,” Black’s character declares in the trailer. “We have to go out in the jungle and find another one.”
Thus, there’s nothing for the budding filmmakers to do but head to the Amazon and shoot on location. They bring their crew, consisting of Steve Zahn and Thandiwe Newton, along for the ride. It should surprise no one that they find a much bigger serpent to star in their project shortly after setting up their gear.

The trailer makes sparse but effective use of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s opus “Baby Got Back” and its iconic “My anaconda don’t want none…” line.
Tom Gormican will direct from a script he wrote with Kevin Etten. Both directed and/or wrote the Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage epic The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, so they know a thing or two about movie metacommentary. Ione Skye, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello also star.
Anaconda slithers into theaters on Christmas Day.
