The world may have forgotten Spider-Man after Dr. Strange erased his entire existence in his last feature film, but Spider-Man (and Peter Parker) can’t help but remember who and what he left behind.

In the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we find Peter Parker haunting the life he left behind, four years ago in this film’s timeline. He’s still your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, but he has no best friend, no girlfriend, and his Aunt May is dead. We see Peter stalking MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) on social media, visiting Aunt May’s gravesite, and crashing a party only to find MJ canoodling with some other guy.

Still, Peter (and Spider-Man) don’t have much time to mope, as there are new friends and foes on hand – and an even more pressing personal crisis to handle. As Spider-Man, he meets Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and the meeting is a bit contentious.

Michael Mando shows up as the Scorpion, and we see him aim his menacing mechanical stinger at Spidey, and he also has to fight a cadre of red-clad ninjas on top of that.

The timing couldn’t be worse, as Peter’s DNA begins undergoing another mutation, one that could either make him stronger than before, or it could kill him. And the only one who can help him is Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo).

Sadie Sink also stars in Brand New Day, though she’s not in the trailer. We do see Zabryna Guevara, who plays Mayor Wilson Fisk’s assistant in Daredevil: Born Again reprising her role here, so there may be other crossovers from that show to the film. The Bear‘s Liza Colon-Zayas also has a role.
