Two new mystery-thrillers, both set in retirement homes, dropped their trailers on Thursday.

In the first, The Thursday Murder Club, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie play neighbors who try to solve cold cases in their free time, which being retirees, they have in abundance.

The plot follows Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Kingsley), and Joyce (Imrie) whose casual interest in murder turns personal when “an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, [and] their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands,” according to the film’s synopsis.

Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, and Ingrid Olive also star in the film made by Netflix and Amblin Entertainment. Christopher Columbus directs the movie, which is based on Richard Osman’s bestselling novel of the same name. The script comes from Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, who adapted the book for the film.

The Thursday Murder Club debuts on Netflix on August 28th.

In a far more sinister mystery, former Saturday Night Live funnyman Pete Davidson stars in The Home, a horror/thriller where he plays a retirement home janitor who discovers something is very, very wrong on the building’s fourth floor.

“There’s something very wrong with this place,” an older woman resident warns Max (Davidson). “Something terribly wrong.” Max, who is there completing mandated community service, is told that the fourth floor is off limits to him, as those residents require “special care.”

Of course, there would be no movie if Max’s curiosity didn’t get the best of him, so as the synopsis says, “as his suspicions grow and he digs deeper, he uncovers a chilling secret that puts both the residents’ lives and his own in grave danger.”

The Purge creator James DeMonaco directs The Home, which he co-wrote with Adam Cantor. John Glover and Bruce Altman also star.

The Home is being released in theaters by Lionsgate Movies and Roadside Flix on July 25th.
