Good times never seemed so good as they do in the trailer for Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson’s upcoming biopic Song Sung Blue.

Jackman and Hudson play Mike and Claire Sardina, a real-life couple from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who realized their dreams of becoming a popular Neil Diamond-tribute band. The movie also shows the couple’s attempts to make it in show business as well as their personal struggles.

Calling themselves Lightning and Thunder, the Sardinas performed as Neil Diamond and Patsy Cline in the Milwaukee area beginning in 1989. The two performed at the Wisconsin State Fair (where the couple was wed) and even had a guest slot at a Pearl Jam show in 1995.

The trailer begins with Jackman as Mike Sardina declaring, “I’m not a songwriter, I’m not a sex symbol, I just want to entertain people,” with Hudson as Claire adding, “I don’t want to be a hairdresser, I want to sing, I want to dance, I want a garden, I want a cat.”

Mike Sardinas died in 2006, but Claire still lives in Wisconsin. She has previously stated of Song Sung Blue that “All of the hype has taken me back to when my wonderful husband was alive and by my side. It’s been wonderful to go back in time.”

Song Sung Blue comes from writer-director Craig Brewer, whose films include the biopic Dolemite is My Name about filmmaker Rudy Ray Moore, and the music industry tale Hustle and Flow. Brewer’s film is based on a 2008 documentary about the same subject from Greg Kohs.

Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, Hudson Hensley, Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi also star in the film, which will close out the American Film Festival’s annual event at the end of October. Along with Brewer, John Davis and John Fox are producing for Davis Entertainment and Focus Features.

You can sing along to Song Sung Blue when it hits theaters on December 25th.
