If you watch the trailer for Netflix’s Troll 2, you will believe trolls exist.

We’re kidding of course; no one seriously believes there are not one, but two King Kong-sized mythical creatures with big noses, mouth and feet stomping around snowy Norway – but then again, have you ever been to snowy Norway? We haven’t, so truly anything is possible.

Troll 2, which stomps onto Netflix in December, is a sequel 2022’s Norwegian-language film Troll, which was directed by Roar Uthaug and featured Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora, Kim Falck as Andreas​​​​​​​, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Captain Kris, all of whom had to battle an ancient troll awakened from its slumber to wreak havoc on modern-day Norway. Troll proved successful for Netflix and garnered “generally favorable” reviews over at Rotten Tomatoes.

Both director Uthaug and Wilmann, Falck and Petterson return in Troll 2, which Netflix sums up by saying, “A new troll has awakened! Join Nora, Andreas, and Captain Kris as they embark on their most dangerous adventure yet. With the clock ticking and chaos spreading, they’ll need new allies and ancient secrets to stop the rampage. Can they save Norway before it’s too late?”

From the trailer, we see Nora, Captain Kris and the rest awaken yet another troll, and the two square off in what one character calls a “monster mash,” racing toward each other on a bridge that surely won’t survive the battle.

Neither Netflix film is related to the 1986 film of the same name, which featured a family that included both a Harry Potter Sr. and Harry Potter Jr. That Troll was directed by John Carl Buechler. And 1990’s Troll 2 is also unconnected to any other movie, and is actually about goblins. That Troll 2 was the subject of the documentary Best Worst Movie.

Back to Netflix’s troll franchise – Troll 2 is subtitled, though there is a smattering of English in the trailer, and you can stream it beginning December 1st.
