She may not be “The Doctor” anymore (if she ever was), but Billie Piper has plenty of work to occupy her time.

She was last seen by fans on the finale of Doctor Who as the new face that Ncuti Gatwa’s character regenerated into. Now Piper will be starring in Sketchbook, a supernatural thriller about a cursed stationery item.

Woody Norman (The Last Voyage of the Demeter) also stars in the film, which follows a 14-year-old “struggling to find his place back home with his mother after years in foster care. When a group of teenage misfits introduces him to a cursed sketchbook that makes anything drawn inside it come true, he finally finds a way to get everything he wants – friendship, attention and a chance to belong. But as the drawings grow darker and more dangerous, he discovers something inside the book is using him,” according to the official description.

Written and directed by Jamie Jones (Obey), Sketchbook is being produced by David Lancaster (Whiplash). Filming begins in Wales next year.

Norman also appeared as King Richard II in the Uprising, and Piper recently was featured on the Netflix series Wednesday as music professor Isadora Capri. She also appeared in Penny Dreadful. and is probably best known for playing the character of Rose Tyler on Doctor Who beginning when the show was rebooted in 2005 with occasional appearances since her character stopped being a regular in 2006.
