Little Monster: A Cadre of Kidnappers Can Collect a King’s Ransom – If They Can Stay Alive in ‘Abigail’
Don’t let the toothy smile fool you.
In Universal Pictures’ Abigail, it seems like a fair fight when a group of kidnappers capture a 12-year-old girl and hold her in an isolated mansion where the only thing standing between them and a $50 million ransom payout is a few hours. And their sweet-faced captive, of course.
But a few hours can seem like an eternity, especially when the prisoner is not what she seems.
Abigail, which is coming to theaters this spring, was directed by the Radio Silence team, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed Scream VI (2023) and Ready or Not (2019). Guy Busick and Stephen Shields wrote the script.
The trailer shows the group of kidnappers, played by Melissa Barrera (Scream), Dan Stevens (Legion), Kevin Durand (The Strain), Kathryn Newton (Freaky), the late Angus Cloud (Euphoria) William Catlett (Black Lightning) and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), who must keep a young dancer named Abigail (Alisha Weir) in custody for one night, in order to collect the preposterously large ransom.
But Abigail is no ordinary ballerina – she’s a monster. And one by one, her captors, now prisoners themselves in this old dark mansion, will have to fight Abigail to stay alive.
Abigail is one of Universal’s modern monster movies, from the Dark Universe series that began in 2020 with The Invisible Man and which includes 2023’s Renfield. Abigail is a retelling, in part, of Universal’s 1936 classic horror film Dracula’s Daughter.
Abigail was produced by William Sherak (Scream franchise, Ready or Not), Paul Neinstein (Scream franchise; The Night Agent) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, Scream franchise) for Project X Entertainment.
Watch your neck – Abigail will be dancing into theaters on April 19th.
