Ti West’s ‘X’ Trilogy Concludes With Mia Goth Looking for a Hollywood Happy Ending During Night Stalker Terror
The year is 1985, and adult film star Maxine Minx is on the verge of a big break…if she can stay alive.
Mia Goth returns to the role she originated in X, released in 2022, which was followed by the second movie in Ti West’s trilogy, Pearl, a prequel to X that starred Goth in the title role as well. All three films star Goth as a star wannabe.
Maxxxine is set about six years after the events of X, with Goth playing the lone survivor of the bloody events that transpired. Maxine has reemerged in the seedy Hollywood of the mid-80s as Maxine Minx, a full-fledged porn star who dreams of being a true actress.
Those dreams seem to be coming true until her past, in the form of a detective played by Kevin Bacon, comes knocking at her door. If that weren’t enough, a serial killer called The Night Stalker is preying on women in Hollywood.
Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Halsey and Giancarlo Esposito also star in this installment from A24.
Goth told Variety that “it’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”
X followed a group of amateur filmmakers trying to make a porn movie at an isolated cabin, and Pearl was the origin story of the owner of the property where the events in X took place. Goth played a dual role in X and now each of those characters have their own standalone movie.
Maxxxine opens in theaters on July 5th.
