Perhaps you’ve heard the rumors that there will be a fourth Spider-Man film starring Tobey Maguire. Sam Raimi has heard them too.

And Raimi isn’t committing to the veracity or falsity of said rumor. While at WonderCon this weekend, he told CBR that “I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies], and the track there, and I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me, and say, ‘Well, folks, we can also tell that story!'”

He went on to say, “I’m not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it.”

Tobey Maguire starred as Peter Parker in all three of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, and then the actor entered the MCU through a secret passage, so to speak, when he returned to reprise the role in the hit crossover film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Raimi has worked within the Marvel Cinematic Universe before, helming Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was the film that opened up the door to Marvel Comics characters from other movies that weren’t produced by Marvel. Thus the rumor mill started grinding out the possibility of Raimi reuniting with Maguire and Marvel to make a fourth stand-alone Spider-Man film starring Maguire.

But if anyone is talking to Maguire about the opportunity, it’s not Raimi. He said, “I haven’t talked to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures. But, I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don’t know.”

It’s also possible Sony/Columbia might be in the Spider-Man movie game still, as they have produced films featuring Spidey-adjacent characters like Venom, Morbius, and forgive us for mentioning it, Madame Web. A Kraven the Hunter film and another Venom picture are scheduled to swing into theaters this year.

In the meantime, Maguire as Spider-Man can be seen on the big screen this year; as part of Sony’s celebration of Columbia Pictures 100th anniversary, all three of his web-slinging flicks will be seen in theaters, in the order in which they were released, running from this month through June.
