Stars Hollow is calling you home.

26 years after its debut, HBO Max has greenlighted a documentary about the fast-talking, heavily caffeinated WB/CW series Gilmore Girls. This authorized doc will feature input from the show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, as well as her husband Daniel, who wrote for the series and served as Executive Producer. Also appearing will be star Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai, one of the titular Gilmore Girls.

According to the film’s official description, “offering a rare insider view into the creation of Gilmore Girls, told straight from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, featuring Lauren Graham as well as additional key cast and crew, the documentary reveals how the show eclipsed expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon by unpacking the unique alchemy of the creators, cast, crew, and collaborators. The film includes never-before-seen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, and script pages.”

Lauren Graham announced the documentary on her Instagram page on Wednesday.

Gilmore Girls launched on the WB in October of 2000, and survived the netlet’s transition to The CW. It ran a total of 153 episodes across 7 seasons, concluding in May of 2007. The show focused on the family dynamics between Graham as Lorelei Gilmore and Alexis Bledel as her daughter Rory and was set in the quaint town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Scott Patterson played friend/love interest Luke Danes, Edward Herrmann and Kelly Bishop starred as Lorelei’s estranged parents, and Melissa McCarthy, Milo Ventimiglia, Sean Gunn, and many more were in the cast.

In 2016, Netflix produced a short-form revival of the series called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, with four movie-length episodes titled Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

Bonni Cohen will direct the untitled documentary, which will be the first-ever authorized Gilmore Girls doc. Another project with the title Searching for Stars Hollow and coming from Ink on Paper Studios was announced last year, where it was described as an examination of the show’s role in American cultural history. Cast members appearing include Bishop (Emily Gilmore), Keiko Agena (Lane Kim), and Jared Padalecki (Dean Forester). The producers dropped a trailer for the movie, now titled Drink Coffee, Talk Fast, in November.

Lauren Graham told Entertainment Tonight that she wouldn’t participate in that film because Amy Sherman-Palladino was not involved. That project had a Kickstarter fund for the film’s completion that raised $298,000 against the producers’ $68,000 goal, but there’s no word on when that movie will come out.

Similarly, there’s no projected launch date for HBO Max’s Gilmore Girls project.
