In a time of peace, someone is hunting Jedi.

Just whodunit is the framework of the plot of The Acolyte, the new Star Wars series coming to Disney+ in June. Set 100 years before The Phantom Menace, Mae a mysterious character played by Amandla Stenberg is hunting down Jedi for reasons unknown in the series, which comes from Leslye Headland, who also created the Russian Doll series for Netflix.

To solve that mystery, a former Padawan reunites with her Jedi master to investigate, but they find that there are forces at work even more sinister than they expected – especially when the galaxy seems to be at peace during the High Republic era. The teaser trailer doesn’t explain much more than that, but the full story will come out as the series progresses, and have a Rashomon-like storytelling style, where the story varies based on which character is telling it.

Carrie-Ann Moss will play Master Indara, who in the trailer fights Mae. One of the highlights of the trailer is a scene where several students are walking through the woods when a red-light saber starts whipping through the trees. The students all brandish their own multi-color sabers and ready themselves for battle.

The Acolyte also stars Lee Jung-jae as Master Sol, and Rebecca Henderson will play Vernestra Rwoh, a half-human, half Theelin Jedi who appeared as a teenager in The High Republic comic series.

Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dean-Charles Chapman and Joonas Suotamo are also in the cast. The show will have a two-episode premiere on Disney+ on June 4th, with the other six episodes will be released a week at a time after that.
