Marvel’s series about an actor (who secretly has superpowers) pretending to be a regular actor who’s just playing a fictional superhero is returning.
Disney has offered a second season to its highly-regarded series Wonder Man. Stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley will reprise their roles as Simon and Trevor, and series co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest will return as director and executive producer, respectively.
Wonder Man season one, which launched earlier this year, told the story of aspiring actor Simon, who has powers he can’t quite control, as he struggles to launch his Hollywood career. Along the way, he crosses paths with fellow actor Trevor Slattery, and the two strike up an unlikely friendship as Simon tries to win the lead role on a remake of his favorite childhood superhero film, Wonder Man. Simon has to keep his nascent powers a secret, as hard as it is.
The show currently enjoys at a 91 percent positive critic score and has an 87 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Wonder Man also starred X Mayo as Simon’s agent Janelle Jackson, Demetrius Grosse as Simon’s older brother Eric, Arian Moayed as Department of Damage Control agent P. Cleary, and Olivia Thirlby as Simon’s ex-girlfriend Vivian.
The ending of season one left the door open so that the story could continue, but nothing is known about the plot just yet. No production or release timeline has been released yet either.
