It’s time to once again feel thirty, flirty and thriving.

A generation has passed since the release of 13 Going on 30 in 2004, so by Hollywood standards the film is old enough to qualify for remake status. Netflix announced it would reboot the original, which starred Jennifer Garner as an awkward 13-year-old who woke one day as her future 30-year-old self. Casting for the remake includes Emily Bader and Logan Lerman as the two leads.

Garner played Jenna Rink, who as a 13-year-old girl in 1987 wished to grow up after being humiliated at a party. The next day, she wakes up as a 30-year-old in 2004 with a job at a fashion magazine working with her middle school friend Lucy, played by Judy Greer. Though she has her dream job, she finds that she’s become a person she doesn’t like very much. Mark Ruffalo also starred as her friend/love interest Matty.

Jennifer Garner, who starred in the original film, will serve as an executive producer. Brett Haley, who directed Bader in the January 2026 Netflix movie People We Meet on Vacation, will helm the project, working from a script by Hannah Marks and Flora Greeson.

Haley said in a statement that he was excited to direct the remake. “13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer. I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility.”

No other casting or plot details have been released and a release date has not yet been announced.
